Meditation to suppliment exercise?

I have heard tale of using meditation time in order to revitalize and push your muscles to new levels, even when they are pushed to their limits. In example a person works out to their limit for the day then sits down and meditates. However, instead of allowing your mind to rest and go to a peaceful place, you imagine yourself doing multiple exercises, forms, running, etc... and your body will respond by pushing your muscles (albeit, a fractional amount) yet, it still should give you a little push. Now the question I have for everyone here is will this help or hurt a person in their training? I have yet to really push this particular exercise yet will post my results if there is a want for it once I do so.

William,

I would agree with much of what you're saying here and the potential for meditation to push your muscles to new levels. I would caution you though. When your muscles are exhausted they need to rest and recover. Just because you are "only" working them with your mind does not mean they are not being worked. Sometimes the effect on your muscles are more dramatic in meditation than in physical motion. Especially if you get very proficient at meditation.

One question to ask yourself is how much strength do you need to accomplish the task you set out to do. Stronger and faster can be better but the more intelligent fighter always wins. Learn to do the things you need to do in the most efficient manner possible. Study the angles, arc, leverage, etc. I would highly recommend reading the book "The Art of War". This will provide a glimpse into the subject of using intelligence vs. using force in confrontations.

I hope I didn't get too far off on a tangent there William.

Good luck to you,
-Bill
