One who knows others is intelligent.
One who knows himself is enlightened.

One who conquers others is strong.
One who conquers himself is all-powerful.

From verse 33 of the Tao Te Ching

Wonderful quote. I like Wayne Dyer a lot. I'm going to see him in Tampa in a couple weeks.

I've been studying the Tao for many years and really enjoyed his take on it. "Change your thoughts, Change your life"

The key to happiness is Gratitude, Patience, and Compassion.

There is no evil greater than anger and no virtue greater than patience. (Shantideva)

But patience takes practice.

The next time someone harms, frustrates or annoys you, STOP. Say thank you and be Grateful for the opportunity to practice Patience. Be Grateful that it was not worse and feel Compassion for those who are worse off. Then, with a calm peaceful mind, allow your natural wisdom to determine the best course of action.

Be happy and at peace. Harmony is the real goal.

As a child we learned “Sticks and stones can brake my bones but words can never hurt me”. And it’s true for those who have learned that they are only words and thoughts like “The car is red” and that we have the ability to dismiss these thoughts and replace them with better thoughts. But for many others, harsh words that trigger bad thoughts can cause a wound that festers for years and the pain can last a lifetime, while broken bones heal. Until everyone learns to dismiss unkind words and thoughts, it is good to put all words through 3 filters before passing over the lips.
1) Is it true?
2) Is it necessary?
3) Is it kind?

Words to Inspire

"Love is a powerful tool, and maybe, just maybe, before the last little town is corrupted and the last of the unroaded and undeveloped wildness is given over to dreams of profit, maybe it will be love, finally, love for the land for its own sake and for what it holds of beauty and joy and spiritual redemption that will make [wilderness] not a battlefield but a revelation."

–T.H. Watkins, Redrock Chronicles: Saving Wild Utah, 2000
From the Wilderness Society Newsletter, Jan. 2010

Let the other person be right sometimes, especially on minor points. Just accept it as another opinion.

Choose being kind over being right.

A different opinion, culture or thought system may not be right or wrong, just different. Be curious.

What is real and right to one person might be bogus and wrong to another. Maybe they both have a point.

It is far more important to do the right thing than to do things right.

Harmony is the real goal.

Direction and purpose
Goal setting is one of the most powerful stress control skill one can learn. Companies often phrase values as a mission statement to stay focused and on course. What is your mission statement?

'The fish net exists because of the fish, when you have the fish, you don't need the net, the rabbit snare exists because of the rabbit, once you have the rabbit, you don't need the snare, words exist because of their meaning, once you have the meaning, you no longer need the words...let me find one who has the meaning so that I may have a word with them"

Understand that the mind is made up of 3 parts: conscious, subconscious or subtle mind, and soul or the light that was before your body existed and will be after it dies. The subtle mind can hold only one thought at a time but jumps around like a wild monkey from one picture to another to another providing us with ideas and past experiences wrapped in the emotion of the time. It can be guided by the conscious mind as a gardener tends a fertile garden, or it can be allowed to run wild uncontrollably.
Tend your wonderful garden. Tell your subtle mind what you want it to do. Plant good seeds, worthy goals and ideals. Then watch them like a mother hawk . Observe what pops up. Pull out the weeds and let the seeds of your goals grow. Nurture them. Tend your garden. You must be diligent or the weeds will take over and kill your seeds.

Simply observe and choose your thoughts.
Be grateful, patient and kind.
Dismiss bad thoughts.
Nurture good thoughts.

If you do not control your mind, thoughts and attitude, they will control you.

Kind regards,
doc

Namaste
I honor the place in you in which the entire universe dwells.
I honor the place in you which is of love, of truth, of light, and of peace.
When you are in that place in you, and I am in that place in me,
we are One.
Namaste

It’s not the event or situation that makes us feel good or bad, it’s the thoughts we CHOOSE to think that create our moods or feelings. Choose your thoughts and you will choose your feelings and thus, your behavior. You are only one thought away from a good feeling. THOUGHT creates feeling, FEELING creates behavior, BEHAVIOR creates your life.

Thoughts are always popping up in our heads but the mind can hold only one thought at a time, CHOOSE a good one. Dismiss the stinkin’ thinkin’ and follow the positive lines of thought.

Life is fun

I have been searching for paradise and happiness all my life, from beautiful beaches and mountain highlands to remote Pacific islands and the pampered life of the affluent. Well, I found it! It’s here, all around me. Where ever I go, there it is.
PARADISE is where you make it. Where one person sees a beautiful view, another sees a dirty window.
You CHOOSE what you see and what you feel by CHOOSING your thoughts. Dismiss bad thoughts and follow good thoughts. If you wish to be happy, then BE HAPPY. If you wish to feel good, then FEEL GOOD. Simply observe and choose your thoughts.
A rich man can be miserable living in the lap of luxury while a poor man can be happy living in an igloo. Why?

Serenity is the ultimate realization that everything is, and was as it should be.
It might be that way to give us the opportunity to make things better but ultimately, everything is, and was as it should be.
.
'God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference'
- Reinhold Niebuhr
