Is it necessary to perform the QI Gong meditation and exercises every day so as to acquire and maintain better and longer lasting health? Is it a matter of input being proportionate to results? In other words: more equals better?

Hi Joseph,
Very good question. I'll make a few points here.

First more does not always equal better. In fact, as with everything, you can overdo it. Moderation is best.

As you start learning these exercises you may find them difficult. It is best to have a day of rest before doing them again. And I'm not just talking about physically difficult. The meditation can be taxing on your mind. Your mind needs to rest in the same way your body needs to rest.

The ultimate goal is to achieve balance in your life. Create a schedule for yourself that compliments your current lifestyle. But be careful not to schedule too many sessions. If you get stressed out or aggravated because you miss a session, then you're worse then before you started.

I personally meditate and do either Qi Gong or Tai Chi every day. But I've been doing this for over 10 years. I also teach about 15 classes per week so I'm not the average person.

Many of my experienced students do something about 30 minutes per day. Some do a morning session of active Qi Gong to start the day and then an evening session of meditation to de-stress from their work day. Some of my other students actually find time to fit a brief 20 minute meditation / qi gong set at work.

My recommendation would be to try to do something every other day when you first start. See how it effects your life and then increase or decrease as needed.

btw - When I complete the personal training program I will have a few different training schedules from which to choose.

I hope that helps.

My exercise routine consists of Yoga, Qi Gong, Tai Chi & some other exercises that I thought would be good for me. I spend about 35 minutes, 3 times a week following my routine. I love it. It is my time. I have been doing this routine for 3-4 years now. I started doing this due to minor back pain that I was getting very tired of. Within a few months, I had almost no back pain. I enjoy the fluid motion, the way the movements of one exercise flows into the next exercise. Sometimes I am amazed when I move into a difficult (really twisted) position & have no pain or stretched muscles, etc. Doing exercises like Yoga, Qi Gong, Tai Chia, etc., can really improve your flexibility & muscle tone. I did stop doing one Yoga exercise (the Swan) because it was too much stress on the knees. I guess what it all boils down to is ...... if you feel good about the exercise routine then stay with it. You can always add another or take away but stay with it.
